The Depths of Winter. Roots and Rhythms #3
The depths of winter.
When we are craving warmth and stillness.
A quietness we can't quite find.
Until we do.
And then we know.
We know what we need.
It’s just easy to forget.
To get lost in the busy and the noise and distraction.
The feeling of being lost
but really, we're not.
We just need the time and the space and stillness and quiet.
If only for a moment,
We just need to remember.
The buzz of the summer, a distant memory.
We look back in frustration.
But I felt so good back then.
But darling, we're no longer there.
That was in the past.
We're here now.
In the depths of winter,
Longing for something different than what fulfilled us back then.
Snuggled by the fire,
maybe a candle at best.
Warm tea in hand.
a blanket to snuggle.
Without trying to wriggle and worm.
From the discomfort of the darkness
But to just sit here instead.
In loving kindness for all of the seasons,
For all of the versions.
For the woman you once were,
The woman that you are
and the woman you will become.
Maybe one day,
you'll look back on this moment.
With a fondness,
a gentleness for the struggle you remember.
And the challenge that it felt to stop.
As the to do list grew,
The demands continue,
Its a real act of rebellion
to just stop and go slow.
In the depths of winter
When we need to recharge,
Where we need to honour the slowness and darkness,
The discomfort remains
Until you let it just be.
A seasonal blog she said.
With no timeline she said. True to style. Here we are, writing again. In a new way. A new style. Or maybe its old. In fact, it is old. A way I have always liked to write, yet in reality, it doesn’t always make sense. In trying to make my writing more understandable, more palatable, I made it unbearable for myself. Aspiring to standards and expectations I created in my mind. So it may not make sense, it may be a ramble but I promise it’ll be raw, straight from the heart.
May you find moments of stillness in the midst of winter.
Moments of peace to gather yourself and just be.
Amongst the chaos that exists all around.
May you find warmth and nourishment in the simplicity of a tea. Of a meal or a heat pack. Maybe warm oil and a bath. May you find connection amidst the distraction.
With love,
Amie
